Biofuels:  What impact on crop protection and seeds now?

Alan Baylis has reviewed that status and prospects for biofuels, particularly with reference to the impact they are increasingly having on the agrochemicals and plant science industry.

Three articles have been published in the journal Outlooks on Pest Management:

  1. Current status of biofuels and crop feedstocks
  2. Sources of feedstocks for second generation biofuels
  3. Innovation in crop production, protection and utilisation

EPOBIO Conference:  From Crops to Zero Waste

EPOBIO was a project funded by the European Commission under Framework Programme 7 to review scientific knowledge on plant-based products in economic, environmental and social contexts (www.epobio.net).

The aim was to underpin EU policies to support the future development of what is becoming known as the 'Bioeconomy' over the next 10-15 years. Project participants include universities, research institutes and industry in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Greece, France, Italy and Switzerland, and the USDA.

This EPOBIO project conference was held in Eretria, Greece, 15-17 May 2007, to review the project's work so far, together with other invited contributions.
